In the time since we started this blog I have posted exactly one nude manicure, haha. On my own, I was never really drawn to nudes; I’d see a bottle and go eh, lemme grab this more exciting color next to it! But since Mel gave us the “My Favorite Nude” group topic, and since seeing all the lovely shades she and Sandy have posted, I’ve started to come around. I’ve been on a quest for one that suited me and while I’m still working towards that “favorite”, I thought I better start sharing some of my runner up finds 🙂
Mel had spoken so fondly of her Rimmel London Lasting Finish Pro polishes that when I saw Bare Naked on a sale rack, I figured it was probably a good bet and scooped it up. Then last night when I decided to go to a Hanson show at a local venue, I saw a good opening to use it. (Yes, you remember them as tweens from the 90’s with long hair and a Grammy for Mmmbop haha, they done grown up!) I’ve been a pretty solid fan since their Underneath album in 2003, and you know I love any reason for a theme mani, so I wanted to do something with the Hanson logo, but not too over the top.
I have to say, I’m appreciating Bare Naked’s nice peachy tone and subtle shimmer. It does look nice on me. And I really enjoyed the concert last night 🙂 To read why the formula is keeping this from being My Favorite Nude, to see a macro (and even to hear a little new school Hanson) hit the jump 😛
My obsession with Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Pro line continues with Wild Orchid. Holy formulaic perfection, Batman!!! This is ONE coat of polish!!! Granted, the polish is a bit thick. But if you are prepared for it, you can have the quickest manicure ever with it. The polish was really easy to apply, and clean up was a breeze, even with non-acetone nail polish remover. This shot is without a base coat, and it has a really high shine finish. Depending on time, I might not even worry about a top coat! Wild Orchid is a lavender creme. There’s not any glitter or shimmer. It’s just a straight creme polish. It would actually make a really great base for some nail art, if I were so artistically inclined! I thought this was similar to Sinful Colors Verbena, but if you set them next to each other, Verbena definitely leans more towards blue, while Wild Orchid is a lighter purple. This is definitely a “summer” polish, and I probably won’t be wearing it much this winter. Unless of course I’m going somewhere warm. Like San Diego. Which I am.
I picked up this polish at Target for $3.79 but had a $1 off coupon. You can pick up Rimmel pretty much anywhere nail polish is sold, from $3.50-$4.79. I might make it my mission in life to find every color in this line. I LOVE IT!!!
Since today is officially the first day of Fall, we felt that we should share what our 5 favorite shades for the season are going to be. I’m really excited about this as Fall is my favorite season. All my sports teams are starting their seasons, boots can be worn without your feet sweating, I can wear my hair down, and there are some AMAZING nail polish lines that are released. In order to not overload our readers with pictures and text since there are going to be 3 posts today, we’ve provided a picture with a sentence or two recap. If you see a color you’re interested in and want to read more about, you can click the picture and it will link you back to the original review of that polish!! Easy peasy!!!
My #1 favorite color this fall is Butter London’s Saucy Jack. To see the other 4 (in no particular order) and my honorable mentions!!! Read the rest of this entry
I told you on Sunday when I reviewed English Rose that I was obsessed with Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Pro line. Like, I’m pretty sure I own over 75% of the colors. The formula and application are just so stellar that I can’t help it. Plus it reminds me of London and my time there. I absolutely LOVE London. So when I had a coupon for a $1 off any Rimmel product, I went to my local Target (the cheapest place to find Rimmel at $3.77) and picked up this beauty.
1 coat Orly Nail Defense
3 coats Rimmel LFP Baby Pink
1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat
Despite the fact this is more magenta than “baby pink,” I am totally in love with this polish and the color. It’s a very girly pink, and works with my skin tone (which is a little bit paler here than in real life due to the flash I had to use to get an accurate color). I used 3 coats, and you really only need 2. I had to put 3 coats on ONE finger due to a nick, and because I’m slightly OCD, I did the other nine as well. I think this is what led to the massive chipping I had on my thumbs. There is such a thing as TOO MUCH polish. I actually wanted to leave this polish on for more than a day, which doesn’t happen very often. This seems to be happening a lot to me these days, but I wish I had found this color earlier in the summer. I’ll definitely try to get at least one more wear out of it on my tips before fall is officially here on the 23rd. My toes don’t follow all these societal rules I make up for nail polish. They’ll be pink all through the winter.
This color and post are in honor of my British BFF, Amy. She sent me an email today announcing she’d gotten engaged to her boyfriend, Ben. I’m really excited for her. She’s one of my favorite people on the planet, and I had the pleasure of meeting Ben during my trip to England in February and he’s a great guy. So when I saw this color in Walmart, I was inspired!
1 coat Orly Nail Defense
2 coats Rimmel LFP English Rose
I am a HUGE fan of Rimmel LFP polishes, as you will soon discover. Their formulas are so awesome, they are fully opaque in 1 coat, and I use 2 just to be safe. The bottle is easy to hang onto while painting, and the brush allows for one stroke application. If I had one complaint, it’s that the brush is actually too big for my pinky nail and it’s a little awkward to apply. I actually really like this color on my skin tone. I was a little surprised, because while I believe that every collection should have a rose pink in it, it’s not my favorite color. However, I really like this one because it leads more towards the red side of rose pink than the brown side. I didn’t apply a top coat because I was only swatching, but it’s got a bit of a shine without it. And I quite like the muted shine of this color. Rose pink is a color I would wear to a formal occasion, or for a work conference. I can’t speak highly enough of Rimmel’s Lasting Finish Pro line. Every color I have from them has a glorious formula. Expect at least two more reviews in the near future. I’m currently obsessed.
