Warm & Fozzie, from the Muppets Collection, was one of my favorite colors to come out last year. I even did a post on it when I had gotten the mini set. When I had the idea to do a re-swatch post, I went back to look at the previous swatches and had a really good laugh with Jess about how nubby my nubbins were when I did that post. It was early on in our blogging days, and I have gotten much better at swatching since then. And, as Jess said, I’ve “embraced a little length” with my nails.
Turns out, I still love Warm & Fozzie. It’s such a great fall color with the burgundy, gold, and copper flecks and one of the few “brown” polishes I’ll wear. I wore this to Philly last week for the DC United game (we won!) and got so many compliments on it. Here I used two coats, but I definitely think this is a three coater under normal circumstances. When I was looking at it in the sun, I felt like my nails were still a bit transparent. There is a bit of a shrinkage problem with Seche Vite as the top coat, so I definitely think I will try a different top coat next time.
You can still get Warm & Fozzie on Amazon and eBay!
Even though I am working my way through my untrieds and trying not to buy any new polish (special exceptions excluded, obviously), I picked up Essie’s Play Date this weekend because I knew I wanted it to be my Caribbean vacation pedicure color. I also thought it would make a great base for Spotted. I absolutely love this color. The formula is wonderful as Essies usually are, and it went on perfectly in 2 coats. It’s also super easy to control. I barely had to do any clean up because it doesn’t pool in my cuticles, or drag. This is a bit brighter than Rimmel’s Wild Orchid, but resides in the same family and are close enough that I may purge my Rimmel. I picked up Play Date at Target for $7.79.
I have to give a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge shout out to my friend Gina who sent this to me in a care package this week. She knew I was having issues with my eBay purchase of Spotted, while she somehow manage to bid and win two bottles. So when I opened my package and saw a mini of Spotted, the sounds that came out of my mouth in excitement were not human. She poured some of her bottle into an empty mini and sent it to me!! Thanks Gina!! Obviously, I had to try it immediately, and I love the result. I definitely need some work on the application. You are supposed to put on a VERY THIN coat, and while I wiped my brush until I was sure there no polish on it, that still ended up not being thin enough. That’s why you are getting pictures that only have 2 and 3 fingers in them. My other fingers just look… special. I can’t wait to try Spotted over other colors and see the different combinations. You best believe there will be a DC United manicure done with this before the end of the season.
Unfortunately, you can’t buy OPI Spotted in the States at this time. You will probably need to find a kind and generous soul in France to purchase and ship it to you, or pay out the hoohah for it on eBay. That’s another reason I’m grateful Gina sent me this mini. I can’t really afford a full-sized bottle at the extortionate eBay prices so this is now my most prized polish!!
If you name a nail polish after my favorite food group (CHEESE!), I’m going to buy it. It could have been bright ass orange, and I would still buy it. Thankfully Gouda Gouda Two Shoes is not orange, but a dusty brownish rose color. My Bloom.com order with my OPI Holland Collection polishes arrived this weekend, and I couldn’t wait to try them out. Jess and I, along with our friend Gina, are in a Untried Polish A Day challenge, and this color is a great office friendly color to start out the week.
The formula is amazing. 2 coats gives full coverage, and there isn’t any cuticle drag, streaking, or bubbling. As mentioned above, it’s a dusty brownish rose that has a fine gold and pink shimmer. The shimmer is super subtle, and can really only be seen when the light hits it just right.
I bought 6 other colors from this collection and I can’t wait to try them out. The Holland Collection is now available at Ulta, and e-tailers, retailing at $8.50 each.
Confession: I love Nicki Minaj. Love. Her. As I told Jess last week, I don’t trust people who don’t like Nicki Minaj (this was a reference to a specific person, and an obvious exaggeration). I think she’s fun, has great ‘tude, and I wish I had that wig. I’m actually listening to her album as I were this on the bus home from visiting Jess in NYC! So when I heard she was doing a nail polish line, I knew I was going to need at least one of the colors. And Pink Friday it was.
Pink Friday is a baby pink creme. I have several of these shades, but none are really dupes for each other. They all lean more pink or more white than the others, so I struggle to purge any of them. The formula in PF is really good, and it covers in 2 coats (on my index finger I have three due to user error). Its a teensy bit on the thick side, but this is easily solved by using thinner coats and a lighter hand when polishing. One of the most important factors in a polish to me is how well it cleans up. This cleans up excellently and with very minimal effort. As I’ve been doing recently, I wore PF for 4 days. Sometimes life gets in the way of doing your manicure.
I also have Fly from this collection, which I’ll review soon. I’m currently wearing it on my toes with Essie’s Shine of the Times and I loooooooove it! Now I just have to decide how bad I really want Did It On ‘Em… Read the rest of this entry
It’s taken me a while to get into matte polish. I used to think it looked weird. Nail polish is supposed to be shiny!!! However, I’ve come around. I think it just took the right polish. Animalistic, from the OPI Muppets Collection, is that polish to me. It’s awesome on its own. But when I mattefy it, it has that suede finish that I like much better than a flat, matte finish. Look at that shimmer!! I want Jess to review Animalistic in full, because she’s been lemming it for such a long time. But I wanted to share this manicure because I am loving it. A matte top coat gives a polish a whole new dimension. More importantly, it’s a quick way to update a manicure! Instead of redoing my manicure every day, or every other day, I can use a matte top coat for a quick update! Plus, it dries super quick. I mattefied my nails and 20 minutes later I was assembling my Christmas tree!!
You can pick up Animalistic at Ulta, and many e-tailers for $8.50-$10. Essie Matte About You can be found at most drugstores, Ulta, Target, etc, and online for $7.50-$10 depending on the store.
I love how this turned out!!
1 coat Seche Rebuild (base)
2 coats OPI – Pepe’s Purple Passion
1 coat OPI – Excuse Moi!
1 coat Essie – Matte About You (matte topcoat)
Confession: I HEART the Muppets
Confession 2: I haven’t seen the movie yet:(
Confession 3: But I do have all the Muppets polishes 🙂
Pepe’s Purple Passion is an oddly gritty, thickish polish that isn’t really purple. It’s more burgundy but I can forgive it for all of its weaknesses because of the name, lol. It’s actually not a very easy polish to apply but I think if you thinned it a bit and had a ton of patience, you can make it work. I have a ton of patience, so it wasn’t terrible:) Mel reviewed Excuse Moi here. It’s an awesome glitter.
This layering combo was gorgeous without the matting (forgot to take a picture) but matting it brought it to a new level of sophistication. What do you think? 🙂
I picked up OPI’s Give Me A Coral Sometime a few weeks ago when ULTA was running their 2/$10 deal on a few discontinued colors. It was a consolation color as one of the ones I had wanted was sold out already. Luckily I really love this color, so I’m not too heartbroken I didn’t get that other color whose name I don’t even remember now!
1 coat Orly Bonder
3 coats OPI- GMACS
1 coat Seche Vite Top Coat
Give Me a Coral Sometime is a coral jelly base with a fuschia shimmer, something I was definitely able to capture in my picture. When the light hits it, it flashes! It’s a bit thin and sheer, so even with 3 coats there is a bit of a visible nail line. This doesn’t really bother me as I have accepted the fact that I have unnaturally white tips and they will shine through any polish that isn’t a particularly dense color. However, 3 coats doesn’t feel thick as its a thin formula, and it does go on even and smooth. It’s not problematic, just more a building up issue.
I really can’t get over how much I like this color of coral. Most corals lean too orange but this leans more pink, which works for me. I can see this color getting a lot of wear in the summer! You can get OPI polishes at most e-tailers and at ULTA for around $8.50-$10.

I hope everyone had a good Black Friday! Mine was seriously the least stressful BF I’ve had in the time I’ve been shopping. I suppose this is due to hitting them slightly after opening time, and going places such as ULTA, Ross, and Rite Aid. I picked up some goodies, none of which were really “on sale” but who cares!?
I picked up the Color Club Beyond The Mistletoe set at Ross for EIGHT DOLLARS. It comes with the 7 colors from the line, plus a bottle of clear polish. From left to right we have: Sugarplum Fairy, Beyond The Mistletoe, Holiday Splendor, Jingle Jangle, Candy Cane, Gingerbread, and Clear. I swatched a finger of each yesterday and boy are they sparkly! Thanks to Gina for the heads up! Also, they have the Color Club Foiled Collection, as well as the Boho Collection, also $8.
After listening to Jess wax poetic about Helping Hands, I went to pick some up. A few weeks ago, I tore my hand up opening a 2ltr bottle of coke. I took a huge hunk of skin out of my finger and gave myself a blood blister in that part where your index finger and thumb. I think this was a moisturizer problem. So I went and picked up HH, and gave the new products a sniff test. I also got a sample tub of Lemony Flutter so I can stop carrying around the large one. Hopefully Jess will do a review of her LUSH goodies soon!!
I finally got a full-sized bottle of Warm and Fozzie!!
Ulta had the Essie Luxeffects display out. The only one I REALLY WANTED was Pure Pearlfection. So I picked that one up. Shine of The Times is definitely AWESOME, but not something I would get a lot of use out of. I may pick up As Gold As It Gets at some point.
A few days ago, I was browsing my Google Reader feed and saw Essence’s Irreplaceable as the base for a really cute nail art. At $.99 a bottle, and .16fl oz, these are GREAT for travelling. They are easy to replace, and take up zero room. They also come in a nice assortment of normal colors and unique colors. I definitely think I’ll be picking up several of these colors for England and Antigua next year.
Ulta Is also running a 5 for $5. In addition to 2 face masks for Mud Mask Mondays, and a black eyeliner, I picked up a 4pk of emery boards and a bottle of Ulta Set the Nude. The emery boards are perfectly travel-sized (are you sensing a theme?). And one can never have too many nude color polishes!!
Were you successful this weekend?? What polishes did you pick up?
Happy Black Friday!! I hope y’all had a good Thanksgiving and enjoyed stuffing your faces with loved ones. I live by myself, was only responsible for ice cream at our family dinner, and wasn’t getting picked up until 3pm, so I went and saw The Muppets yesterday morning. My genius “Parents Will Be Too Busy To Take Their Bratty Children To An 11AM Movie” plan worked out well, and I was able to enjoy the film in relative peace. And I’m pleased to say, IT WAS SOOO GOOD. I’ll definitely be going to see it again! Even though I didn’t wear this polish to the film (I did have Wocka Wocka on my toes), I wanted to share it in honor of the movie now being out. And the fact that I personally thought it lived up to the hype, which is a rare occasion indeed.
1coat Orly Bonder
2coats OPI- Warm and Fozzie
1coat Seche Vite Quick Dry Top Coat
Warm and Fozzie is definitely my favorite of the Muppets line. At least, my favorite of the ones I would wear regularly. It’s golden bronze and it has reddish flecks in it. They formula is awesome. The first coat is thin, but the second coat gives perfect coverage. It’s a 2 coater in every way. It doesn’t streak, or leave bald spots. It also dries quite quickly, which is really nice. If I had one itsy bitsy complaint, it’s that this polish seems to shrink more than others. This could be avoided by wrapping your tips. I’m not really sure it goes with my skin tone that well, but I love the color so much, I just don’t care!!
You can now find Warm and Fozzie, along with the rest of the Muppets Holiday collection wherever OPI Polishes are sold. They retail between $8.50-$10. It’s one of the polishes I’m hoping to pick up at ULTA this morning in a full-sized bottle. I got this one as part of the mini set from NailSupplies.us, and I’m already almost out!! So I hope I can get my hands on it!!
