Nails Inc. – Houses of Parliament

nails inc - houses of parliament

1 coat Seche Retain (base)
1 thin coat of Essie – Sexy Divide
1 thick coat of Nails Inc. – Houses of Parliament
1 coat INM – Out the Door (top coat)
1 coat Seche Vite (top coat) … yes, 2 top coats.

I have a confession… I have an issue with $16 polishes.  Especially $16 polishes that are .33 oz.!!  As a huge nail polish fan, I’ve accepted the 8 dollars Essies, the 8.50 OPIs, but at least those are .5 oz.!  When you want to charge me more and give me less, maaaan I just have to really love you to buy it.

This was absolutely the case for Houses of Parliament.  I fell in love with this polish first from the swatches online.  As you all know, I am a HUGE Baltimore Ravens fan and this color could not capture the team colors (purple and black) more perfectly.  I justified it that way, plus, the magnetness make it worth more, right??

Tips and more under the cut!

Mattese Elite- Dirty Slut w/ Nails Inc. Special Effects- Electric Lane

I am blogging on the go today, but I really wanted to share this mani with you, so forgive the less stellar than usual pictures. It hides a bit of damage to my nail beds anyway. First of all, shout out to Gina who gave me the idea for this mani in the first place. You see, she went to the midnight release of Breaking Dawn last night and this was her super simple “Team Edward” manicure. (Disclaimer: I have no idea if she is truly Team Edward or not. I know this is a serious debate among people.) She did her’s over Ulta’s Set The Nude, and it looked great. Unfortunately, I don’t own that, but I DO own Mattese Elite’s Dirty Slut, which I have been wanting to try for some time! This seemed like a great occasion to do so!

Dirty Slut is a great neutral polish. It’s a slightly purple leaning taupe and is juuuuust dark enough that I don’t look like I have mannequin hands. It’s a touch on the thinnish-thick side, so it require a bit of babying. However, two carefully applied coats gives you complete opacity, without bald spots or streaking. I almost left this alone and wore JUST DS, but it is Friday, and I wanted something sparkly to wear with Jeans and Jersey Friday at my office (I’m wearing my Steven Gerrard 2010-2011 home Liverpool jersey for those that were wondering).

I’m really glad I added Nails, Inc. Electric Lane. I used Nails, Inc. polishes several times while living in England, and im super glad they finally made their way over here. DS provided a great base that has just the right amount of color to really make Electric Lane pop. Electric Lane is a holo micro glitter. I’m more partial to micro glitters for holo effects because I think it makes you appear as if you had fairy dust on your tips! It also doesn’t make it appear like you have a flashing rainbow on your fingers. It’s also totally office-friendly. One coat of EL is plenty, which is good because it retails at $10 for .33floz. I was slightly worried I had put on too much initially, but I think this mani turned out quite nice. Best of all, this is not a thirsty glitter, so one coat top coat will do ya, and as you can see in the picture below, it doesn’t dim the holo effect!

You can pick up Mattese Elite’s Dirty Slut online or at any Ricky’s NYC location for $5.99 and they are running some great deals this month. You can pick up Electric Lane for $10 online or any Sephora that carries the core Nails, Inc line!

P.S. does anyone think this resembles Butter London’s All Hail The Queen? It might be a shade or two darker, but it’s pretty darn close!!
