When Starry Pink was first released, I think all three of us were excited. Then we put it on and were all a little mehhh. Mel did the first write up, here, and we both wondered if using it as a top layer over something else would make it more user friendly.
Well, the answer to that is yes, at least when it comes to formula. I layered it over two coats of Sinful Colors – Easy Going and it worked much better as a top coat. The glitter was easier to maneuver and it made it a normal thickness on my nail instead of the 3-4 coats of goopy thickness it was on it’s own. However, still not sold on the color. The shade is just nqr on my skintone. Since it’s original release, it’s been renamed as Popular and is out in the new Revlon displays that include all sorts of other goodies like Whimsical, Stunning and Naughty. All colors the Clique LOVESSSS.
To jazz it up a little, and because I felt like smelling minty fresh all day, I did an accent nail with Color Club – Orna-Minted. Loved the pop it gave to my ring finger and how it brought out the silver on my other nails too! I loovveeeee the smell of Orna-Minted. It’s a perfect mint smell, and a perfectly proportioned smell. It’s not over powering like some scented nail polishes I’ve tried, and it doesn’t fade super fast either. Lasted through my whole work day 🙂 Also, added relatively scientific bonus? Spearmint is an aphrodisiac, and this def has some spearmint scent mixed in 😉 I didn’t get to use that particular bonus, but hey, maybe one of you will get the chance to haha.
I hope everyone had a good Black Friday! Mine was seriously the least stressful BF I’ve had in the time I’ve been shopping. I suppose this is due to hitting them slightly after opening time, and going places such as ULTA, Ross, and Rite Aid. I picked up some goodies, none of which were really “on sale” but who cares!?
I picked up the Color Club Beyond The Mistletoe set at Ross for EIGHT DOLLARS. It comes with the 7 colors from the line, plus a bottle of clear polish. From left to right we have: Sugarplum Fairy, Beyond The Mistletoe, Holiday Splendor, Jingle Jangle, Candy Cane, Gingerbread, and Clear. I swatched a finger of each yesterday and boy are they sparkly! Thanks to Gina for the heads up! Also, they have the Color Club Foiled Collection, as well as the Boho Collection, also $8.
After listening to Jess wax poetic about Helping Hands, I went to pick some up. A few weeks ago, I tore my hand up opening a 2ltr bottle of coke. I took a huge hunk of skin out of my finger and gave myself a blood blister in that part where your index finger and thumb. I think this was a moisturizer problem. So I went and picked up HH, and gave the new products a sniff test. I also got a sample tub of Lemony Flutter so I can stop carrying around the large one. Hopefully Jess will do a review of her LUSH goodies soon!!
I finally got a full-sized bottle of Warm and Fozzie!!
Ulta had the Essie Luxeffects display out. The only one I REALLY WANTED was Pure Pearlfection. So I picked that one up. Shine of The Times is definitely AWESOME, but not something I would get a lot of use out of. I may pick up As Gold As It Gets at some point.
A few days ago, I was browsing my Google Reader feed and saw Essence’s Irreplaceable as the base for a really cute nail art. At $.99 a bottle, and .16fl oz, these are GREAT for travelling. They are easy to replace, and take up zero room. They also come in a nice assortment of normal colors and unique colors. I definitely think I’ll be picking up several of these colors for England and Antigua next year.
Ulta Is also running a 5 for $5. In addition to 2 face masks for Mud Mask Mondays, and a black eyeliner, I picked up a 4pk of emery boards and a bottle of Ulta Set the Nude. The emery boards are perfectly travel-sized (are you sensing a theme?). And one can never have too many nude color polishes!!
Were you successful this weekend?? What polishes did you pick up?
I’m fairly new to Color Club polishes, but I love the 2 I have. They come in a great variety of colors, have really good formulas, and wear really well. And I’m sharing Warhol with y’all today because while I’m very excited about Fall and all the great colors it brings, I still can’t quite let go of Summer colors. Not yet. I’m holding on for dear life. I also had yet to do a pink during October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. More of those soon too!
1 coat Seche Base Coat
3 coats Color Club Warhol
1 coat Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat
1 coat Confetti Tazmanian Devil (and an additional coat of SV) on accent nail
LOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this. So much so I wore it for 4 days. In a row. It also got a lot of “oooohs” and “ahhhhs” at one of my favorite bar’s “Hurricane What’s-Her-Face is Coming/Going Out of Business” party. Warhol is a neon pink creme. I probably would have bought this for name alone no matter the color. I lurve me some Andy Warhol. Luckily its pink! The formula is fully opaque in 2 coats, but a nicked one of my fingers and like the semi obsessive-compulsive I am, I added a third coat to all fingers. The formula is solid and there wasnt any streaking or bald spots, an issue with neons. And as you are aware, Taz Devil is currently my favoritest glitter in all the land. It just makes me happy! Luckily with this manicure, the glitter matches the base color. I’ve definitely clashed before.
The only place I’ve found Color Club polishes stocked (near me) is at the Bed Bath & Beyond in Chinatown in DC. They retail there for $3.49 However, they are available at e-tailers such as Image Beauty.
What a sleek blog post title, NOT.
1 coat Poshe Antimicrobial (base)
2 coats China Glaze – White on White dots
with a dotting tool: The Color Club Starry Temptress collection (not my picture, found on Google images)
1 coat of Poshe (top coat)
I found the Color Club collection at my local Ross for like, $8 (for 7 full size .5 oz polishes)! WHAT A STEAL. And the colors are so pretty and NEON. Now, I can’t vouch for it’s application or formula yet but I can vouch that they make awesome dots with the dotting tool over White on White. WoW was as decent as a white can be. It’s application and formula certainly wasn’t the easiest (reminded me of painting on white out) but I managed to get it to work after 2 coats. I like this mani a lot better than my previous dots mani. But maybe it’s because I used 6 colors and smaller dots… these dots just really pop though, I love it!
One of my favorite ways to show support for my teams is to paint my nails. Sandy’s already done a Raven’s related mani, and now I’m doing a DC United related manicure. And I really like how it turned out!
yeeeeeeeeeeeeeah. Melissa went shopping today. By accident. I mean, I went out specifically looking for Color Club’s Smash Hit (their Black crackle) so I could do a Vamos United mani. And then I accidentally stopped at Rite Aid (didn’t find anything) and 5 Below (practically bought out the store). Add to that, my Ricky’s NYC order arrived and well. I have 7 new bottles of nail polish.
I did really quick test fingers of Carry On, Power Clutch, Night Lights and Consigliere. Night Lights is either an “own its own” glitter, or an accent nail glitter. It has a solid enough gray base that it would alter the color of a polish if you used on top. Power Clutch is deceptively light in the bottle. It goes on very dark gray. Power clutch may be one of my all time favorite Essie’s and is an absolutely GORGEOUS deep dark plum color. The formula of Consigliere is slightly worrying, as it was runny and overflowed my finger. BUT both you and I should keep in mind that I didn’t take time to rid the brush of excess polish and really just wanted to see the color with my skin tone. I didn’t try out Jezebel or Buffy, so I have no comment at this time. I’m currently rocking Smash Hit, so expect a review on that and several other polishes in the near future.
P.S. don’t you just love how well the pictures came out when I take them with a high-end camera and adequate lighting?
1 coat Poshe Antimicrobial (basecoat)
2 coats Color Club – Fashion Addict
1 coat Poshe (top coat)
I lust after those Nfu-Oh and hard to find China Glaze holos, but who knew I already had this beauty in my Helmer? Jess spotted this online and told me about it, and I’m like, waitaminute, I HAVE THAT!! but never tried it! So I put it on today and wow. I mean, indoors the holo barely shows, but outside in the sun? it’s a show stopper…
