Butter London’s Trustafarian is not a Melissa color. At least not typically. But the more I saw swatches of it, the more I wanted it. I felt like it would be subtle enough that I could still wear it in the office and not be concerned about professionalism. So I picked it up during the Ulta BOGOFREE sale last week. I’m so glad I did! I absolutely loved this polish and wore it for 4 days, which is a rarity in my world. The formula is a bit thin so I went with 3 thin coats for complete coverage. I really like the slightly pistachio color of this polish. It’s unique, and I got a lot of compliments on it. Especially when I was out in the sun. The holo qualities of Trustafarian are really subtle and my nails just sparkled. Removal was super easy, but there was a bit of shimmer left behind on my fingers. Let’s just say I temporarily resembled a Cullen. But I can’t wait to wear this again!
Trustafarian is part of Butter London’s Fall 2012 collection. You can pick it up on Butter London’s website, as well as Ulta, Ricky’s, Nordstrom’s and other sites. They retail for $14.

I’ve shared a glitter bomb mani, and I’ve shared some fairly simple nail art for Christmas manicures this week, so I wanted to take the chance to share a simple, traditional manicure. Butter London’s Knees Up is a GORGEOUS red foil and this is the 3rd time in two weeks I’ve worn it. I picked it up at Ulta in the BOGOFREE Butter London deal they ran back in September, and I’ve been saving it to share for the holiday season as it’s a perfect Christmasy red.
1 coat Orly Bonder
1 coat China Glaze Ridge Filler
2 coats Butter London Knees Up
1 coat Seche Vite
God, this color is gorgeous. It’s totally impossibly to catch the perfectness “on film” but this, and the “artsy fartsy” shot capture it best. The formula is wonderful. I used two coats because I was taking pictures, but one coat is totally adequate and fully opaque. And the brand lives up to its name as this polish literally goes on like butter. It’s super pigmented, but cleans up really easily, which is always nice. If I had one complaint on this polish, it’s that streaks can be visible, but that is a hazard of foily metallicy polishes. I really can’t stress how great of a polish this is for the holiday season. It’s shimmery due to the finish, but still office friendly. It can be dressed up, or dressed down. I personally like the way it looks on my shorter nails (see right) but I’m keeping my nails a bit longer than normal at the moment for a manicure later this week. I hate it. I keep scratching myself like a newborn.
You can pick up Butter London- Knees Up at Nordstrom’s, Macy’s, Ulta, or on the Butter London website for $14. I would definitely encourage spending $14 on this color.

I won’t lie to you. I was a bit wary of this polish after No More Waity, Katie. I wasn’t a huge fan of NMWK, and was worried this might be along the same lines. But HOLY BATMAN. I’m pleased to announce that this polish is miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiles better than NMWK. I used 2 coats here, and it’s full opaque. Unlike NMWK, it’s not too thick. The first coat is a bit sheer and uneven, but the second coat evens everything out. The Black Knight is a black jelly base, with blue, purple, red, green, and pink mini hex glitter and silver microglitter. Some colors are really apparent on the nail, others are only evident when the light hits them just right. All the colors are evident in the macro shot of the bottle below the cut. I have to say, I have really grown to like Butter London polishes after a pretty terrible first experience. The Black Knight is part of the Butter London Holiday 2011 Collection came as part of the Dressing Table Duo from Ulta. The other polish in the duo was Tart With a Heart. Butter London polishes retail for $14 a bottle and you can get them online, or at Ulta and Nordstrom. The duo from Ulta is retailing for $25, and they are currently running a free shipping deal, so you are saving $3! Read the rest of this entry
Oh heeyyyyyy there blog. Been a while, I know haha. But I woke up a full hour and a half before my alarm today, so you finally get a visit from me and my nails! (Imagine that said in a really jovial tone of voice. Jovial also may be my word of the day…) Since I never got to post this during the Tigers’s run for the world series (we’re not going into details here people haha) and since today marks 2 whole weeks that have felt like about 6 months at my job in VA, I give you my Detroit mani as some sort of celebration!
Let me start out by saying this mani lasted me a whopping 5 days. Five people. Not sure if that’s more amazing in terms of the polish or my self restraint, but this picture was taken on day 3 and that definitely speaks to the polish haha. I really love this blue. If you’ll remember my love of Mattese Elite – Vig, Butter London – Blagger is like a color cousin. It’s the same rich, deeply pigmented color but a brighter shade.
It’s a really clean, solid, intense blue and I love it. Application was top notch, it is a highly pigmented color though, so clean up takes a little patience, but it’s worth it. For my sweet Detroit D I used my Claire’s white nail art pen and free handed it. I know, I free hand a lot, but to make you feel better, he’s a macro:
see, it’s not perfection up close, but you can’t tell in the distances you’d be from it in real life. Also, those nail art pens that have a legit pen tip like paint pens are fabulous. I’ve tried a couple brands and haven’t had any one in particular stand out; as long as it has that tip, I can do cool stuff with it, I’m a happy camper haha.
Anywho, happy hump day everyone. I’m off to go harass the mcmansions of Mclean, VA into voting. Er, I mean, canvass in a very professional manner for a highly important election. Hey, gotta pay for my nail polish habit somehow 😉
When Ulta was running that Butter London Buy One, Get One Free deal, Wallis was definitely one of my “free” ones. It scared me. But I’m an open minded individual and thought, I’ll give this a chance. It’s awesome. It’s what I like to call UglyAwesome. Kinda like those men that are SexyUgly. They aren’t attractive by society’s standards, but you still find yourself attracted to them. Like, you can get down and dirty with them, and not have to worry about ruining the pretty. But I digress. Wallis is much like that. It’s not a classically beautiful nail polish. It’s a nail polish that is beautiful because you love it. And ohhhhh boy do I love it. It’s grungy and pukey colored, and glittery and fabulous. Plus, it’s named after a Yank who stole the King of England’s heart. I hope to do the same one day (or at the very least, a rich baron of something). Again, I digress. Wallis is a metallic olive gold packed with gold glitter, and it’s a WONDERFUL formula. Two coats gives you full opacity, and one coat will do ya if you are in a rush. More importantly, it dries smooth, so you don’t really NEED a top coat. The only downside I find with this polish is that cleanup is a bit of a bish. As you can see from my macro shot, there’s still glitter everywhere. And that’s after 30 minutes of cleanup! At $14 a bottle, I have to reeeeeeeeeeeeeally like a polish to say it’s worth that kind of money. I have a mortgage to pay and don’t really like living off ramen all the time. Wallis is totally worth eating ramen.
I knew this was an “OH MY VARNISHHHHH” before I picked it up. We all knew this and all three of us bought it during Ulta’s Butter London bogo sale haha. It’s an amazing color; a medium taupe with holo micro glitter. The perfect color neutral for all of us: a classy and work appropriate base with a little hint of a wild side 🙂
I used my usual Seche Rebuild basecoat with Seche Vite top coat and used 3 coats of All Hail the Queen in between. This color is so easy to work with and the results just make me happy. The holo really adds dimension to the color; be prepared to stare at your nails for extended periods of time haha. Pretty much the only thing I don’t like about this color is the price, and possibly the size of the bottle. At regular price, it’s $14. I managed to score it for about$5.25 because of bogo and an Ulta coupon, but knowing the regular cost for a replacement makes me wary of wearing it alllllll the time like I kinda wish I could haha. The bottle is also .4oz, which when a “standard” bottle of polish is typically .5oz, it makes the price more apparent. I’m definitely NOT trying to talk you out of the color!!! I love it and it’s a fabulous addition to my collection 🙂 I’m just trying to keep it real, and tell you to watch for sales! And choose to wear it when you’re gonna have it on for multiple days so you make it worth it 🙂
Sandy wore this color on her beach trip last week, so hit the jump for a long wear review! Mel also sent me a good flash shot and her thoughts, so this post is a 3 for 1! (where’s THAT kind of Butter London sale? haha)
Full disclosure: I have been a bit “meh” over No More Waity, Katie since it’s come out. It had grown on me a bit since then, having seen better swatch pictures, but I still thought it’s over hyped due to Royal Wedding madness, and the fact that it’s a Butter London glitter, which they don’t tend to do very often. So when I made my Butter London shopping list for the Ulta 21 days of Beauty sale, it’s was 3rd on the back up list, and I was originally planning on only buying 4. It was a nice thought. After placing my original online order, I headed to the store with the intent of having the immediate gratification of polishes in my hand. There was a lost bank card fiasco, and I was only able to get 2 polishes, this being one of them. I figure since I REALLY WANTED to other color I bought, this was the “free” one of the BOGOFREE deal. Since my Ulta order doesn’t arrive until tomorrow, and the other BL polish I got is being saved for a different review, NMWK is what I’m working with. Read the rest of this entry
Since today is officially the first day of Fall, we felt that we should share what our 5 favorite shades for the season are going to be. I’m really excited about this as Fall is my favorite season. All my sports teams are starting their seasons, boots can be worn without your feet sweating, I can wear my hair down, and there are some AMAZING nail polish lines that are released. In order to not overload our readers with pictures and text since there are going to be 3 posts today, we’ve provided a picture with a sentence or two recap. If you see a color you’re interested in and want to read more about, you can click the picture and it will link you back to the original review of that polish!! Easy peasy!!!
My #1 favorite color this fall is Butter London’s Saucy Jack. To see the other 4 (in no particular order) and my honorable mentions!!! Read the rest of this entry
You know when you see a polish that you really like, and then you realize you LOVE it because you keep thinking about it and obsessing over it and keep counting down the seconds to the Butter London Sale at ULTA on Tuesday and then because you need it on your nails RIGHT NOW you go to Nordstrom and pay the absurd full retail price for it? Yeah, that’s how it went with Saucy Jack for me. I’m the “normal color” girl around here, and firmly believe you can never have too many reds in your collection. And this one is GLORIOUS!!!!
1 coat Orly Nail Defense
2 coats BL- Saucy Jack
1 coat Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat (not pictured)
OH. MY. VARNISH. I’m totally in love with it. I’ve already worn it twice in the 6 days I’ve had it, with a 3rd time being this coming Wednesday (DC United day!!) I used two coats, but I think next time I’ll use three. 2 is perfectly fine, but I personally would feel more comfortable with 3 with this particular color. Reds are a bit see through in highly lit areas. I’ve seen a lot of swatches of this color, and none of them have actually done a great job catching the exact color. Saucy Jack is a blood-red creme. Taking a picture with flash was the closest I came to it, but it’s still showing as a brighter red than it actually is. It’s actually almost 100% true to the color that you see in the bottle. Just a shade or two darker than on my nail. But this color does actually go on like butter. So smooth and perfect. The formula isn’t super thick either, so it doesn’t feel heavy on the nail either. The picture I’m posting doesn’t show the SV Top Coat, and it still has a pretty high shine. I did use the top coat on my long-term manicure, and it gave it such a high shine, I couldn’t stop staring at my nails. I actually got several compliments from my co-workers and I imagine they went out and picked up a bottle or two of this themselves over the weekend!
Remember: Butter London is on sale at ULTA Tomorrow, BOGOFREE!!! There is a limit of two, which really means you’ll get 4, since you can buy two, and then get two free. ULTA is also running free shipping on orders of $25 this week.
